The British Chamber of Commerce in Zambia, the British High Commission and the Securities and Exchange Commission invite you to join us for an event on green investment.
According to the Wall Street Journal Investors are putting an eye-popping $3 billion a day into green funds. Driven by rising valuations for electric-vehicle companies and adjacent start-ups, banks and investors now believe that they can make money backing green investments. Assets in investment funds focused partly on the environment have more than tripled over the past three years, reaching almost $2 trillion globally in the first quarter.
On the other hand, The Economist writes Is it all just spin? There are some who view the green-finance gold rush with scepticism, viewing the recent embrace of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) funds as a PR ‘greenwashing’ ploy. Quality certainly matters, and leaders in both public and private sectors argue that the only way to generate the funds needed to halt global warming is to invest.
This event is timely. In November the UK will host the UN’s COP26 climate change conference in Glasgow. It also comes of the heels on the gazetting of the SEC guidelines for issuance of green bonds in Zambia.
We will hear about Climate Change what it means for business and wider populations, what we can expect from COP26, and how will this relate to developing countries such as Zambia.
Our speakers will dig deeper into key areas including:
– Financing sustainable business in Zambia through green bonds – how these might work in practice
– Green Financing Frameworks recently developed in the UK
– The Zambian Government’s plans to stimulate and encourage green finance in Zambia.
A panel of experts will lead us in a discussion followed by Q&A on the topics and issues raised.
Do join us at the Latitude 15 Degrees Hotel, on Tuesday 28th September at 14:30 for snacks and networking before the meeting at 15:00 – 17:00. The meeting will be an opportunity to learn what green finance means for business in Zambia, how you can get involved, and what companies should be considering for their future development strategies.”
Kindly confirm your attendance to the undersigned as we need confirm numbers with the hotel.
